Top Shot: Coyotes of Grand Teton National Park

Winter is one of the best times to view coyotes. To catch this shot I had to wait, knee deep in a snow bank and through intermittent snow flurries, hoping to snap a clear shot of a coyote in pounce.

You can see other coyotes in the background, as the entire pack was out hunting. They hunt using sound, tracking rodents and other small mammals underneath the snowpack. It was a challenging shot to get mostly due to the weather. Harsh conditions keep many photographers at home, but good boots and good gloves can keep you shooting even in the cold.
