World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement today from President and CEO Carter Roberts on the nomination of Sen. John F. Kerry as the next U.S. Secretary of State:
“President Obama’s nomination of Sen. John F. Kerry as the next Secretary of State is a strong signal of his priorities for the next four years. Senator Kerry recognizes that America’s foreign policy must clearly address the reality that environmental pressures and resource scarcity around the world increasingly affect American prosperity.
“We wish Senator Kerry a speedy confirmation and hope that he can immediately begin building on Secretary Clinton’s legacy and commitment to securing a global international agreement to respond to the looming climate crisis and fighting illicit wildlife trafficking – which she rightly and boldly identified as major national security concerns.
“We look forward to working with Sen. Kerry to ensure that U.S. foreign policy addresses the growing pressures on our natural world – at home and abroad.”
